Workshop: An Easy Slide into Python for Data Science

Workshop date & duration: April 3rd, 2021, 9:30 – 14:00, 30 min break included
Trainer: Ionut Oprea
Location: Online, Zoom
Price: 199 RON (including VAT)
Number of places: 10 3 left
Languages: Python (intro level)

Python is a modern, complete and complex programming language, and it can be used for many things, but the good news is that – to use it for data science – you don’t really need to know everything upfront to get you started. So, if you are a beginner in the area of data science or just looking for a start with Python, we have built a workshop that allows you to get started with Python for Data Science in a couple of hours. There is no need to do a local installation for this workshop, the aim is to use Google Colab as a Python notebook – thus all you need is a Google account and willingness/curiosity.

This workshop aims to make it really easy for you to understand the basic notions in order to start data science projects with Python and and get you started on writing your first Python code as well.

What you are going to learn:

Python Basics
Together, we will explore Python data structures (from strings and lists to tuples and dicts), what and how each structure is used for, syntax, variables, functions, loops, how to install, import and explore the libraries/packages that we will be working with.

Python Data Basics
We will open together structured datasets using Python libraries (in all the common file formats for data) and explore their dimensions (manually and automatically). We will get to do descriptive and summary analysis on the data, visualising data both as tables as graphical formats.

Python Data Cleaning/Prepping options (focusing on ML ones)
You will get to explore an “unclean” dataset – “unclean” in the sense that data will be really close to real life data. You will find out how to discover and solve – using transformations – issues like data inconsistency, impurity, lack of data. Different alternatives will be discussed (big data, software, hardware).

Python EASY ML/NLP(natural language processing) – text processing libraries
Did you know you can build (some) ML models by writing only 2-3 lines of code? You will get to write these lines yourself, based on what you learned in the workshop, and you will get acquainted with some super optimized and abstracted libraries that will allow you to get your first results really fast. We will use the most popular text processing libraries and perform some simple data science tasks.

The trainer of this workshop, Ionut Oprea, is a senior data scientist/engineer, with almost 20 years of experience in working with data. He created and managed Standout, a data-driven agency, focused on dedicated data mining services, data discovery, monitoring, analytics and visualizations, applied computer linguistics and more. Currently Ionut is a Senior Data Engineer for Samsung Europe within the Cheil DIA (Digital Intelligence & Analytics) Excellence Center part of the Cheil.com international agency network.

Requirements for the workshop: in order to access Google Colab you will need a Google Account. At the end of the workshop a Jupyter notebook installation demo will be done by the trainer – but the workshop will be run on Google Colab.

The price for the workshop is 199 RON (including VAT). In order to register for this workshop it is required to complete the registration form and then the payment step.
